Keeping your child sharp throughout the summer months doesn’t have to be a challenge when educational activities are involed. Educational acitivities are great to engage in over the summer because kids can still be learning without being in a classroom setting. Try different science expirements and see which ones are successful and which ones arent. Start a big puzzle and see if you can assemble all the pieces before the summer time is over. Play card games that involve brain busters and see how well they do. The possibilites are endless because around every corner there is a learning opportunity waiting to be found.
If your children are old enough to get into the kitchen, let them! Studies show that cooking or baking with your kids have many different benefits. Allowing them to measure out ingredients will sharpen up their math skills by teaching them division and fractions. The best part is, most kids won’t even realize they are practicing math. Following the directions on a recipe will teach them comprehension and the importance of following steps in a sequence. Watching their creations bake will be a real-life science experiment that they can watch transform right before their eyes. When the recipes are created, the real fun can start, eating it! Enjoying a baked treat that they made will boost their self-esteem and will want them to make more recipes in the future.
Make a Lemonade Stand
There’s a reason why lemonade stands have been around for as long as they have. Though you may not see as many as there once was, they are still a great idea to keep your child entertained. Creating a lemonade stand with your child teaches them the value of hard work. Lemonade stands are also great because it’s something the neighborhood kids or other friends can even get involved in. They will be able to see firsthand the need to create something and the amount of hard work it takes to profit from it. This will also allow them the opportunity to boost their communication skills by talking to different people. If your lemonade stand is successful, consider allowing them to buy something they want with their earned money. This will allow them to see the full picture of working hard to receive something they want.
Get Ahead on School Supplies
When the summer starts to wind down, you can start thinking about school supplies for the upcoming year. Getting a head start on this can often mean discounted prices and a bigger variety of choices to choose from. Picking out school supplies with your child doesn’t have to be a daunting task. You can make things fun for them by allowing them to pick out certain notebooks, folders and binders that they can make their own. They can also decorate with stickers and name tags so that they know once school starts they have everything they need to be successful.
