Office Organization 101 – 3 Easy Ways to Keep Clutter at Bay

If you have not already made it one of your resolutions for 2014, it couldn’t hurt to do so – be more organized – it can do more good than harm. At Global Office Solutions, I’m here to provide you with the basics for keeping your workspace organized. Why would anyone want a more organized office? For starters, workspaces that are organized and free of clutter will help keep you more productive. You’ll be able to find things easier, stress a little less, and your neat and clean space may even make a positive impression on your boss.

1.    Store away items you don’t use often.

The first thing you want to do is clean off your desk. The only office supplies, products, and other items that should be on it are the items you use almost everyday (with the exception of maybe a photo of you and a loved one which I think I can allow). Store away everything else. Get rid of clutter on your desk to keep yourself from getting distracted while trying to work on your daily tasks. Here’s a great product for storing away your papers, pens, and other smaller supplies.

2.    File documents electronically.

This is 2014 and we have some fine pieces of technology, like these below business machines. Get rid of mounds of papers and binders that are an eye sore and hog space by filing your documents electronically. Scan your files onto your computer and back them up. Keep them in marked folders so you can easily find them when you need them. A scanner such as the Canon or a Lexmark Multifunction device, below, makes scanning your documents to store electronically easy.

Don’t get us wrong – we’d love to sell you more paper and binders, but having an excessive amount won’t help you and we’re all about bringing you solutions and saving you time and money!

3.    Designate 15 minutes a week as “de-clutter time.”

With so many things to do at work (we know how it is), it’s easy to get off track with keeping your space neat and clean. To help you stay on point, set time aside each week to touch up your space as needed. Schedule time in your electronic calendar or on your paper calendar/planner as a reminder.

It’s a new year. Why not make it your most organized and productive one yet?
